Isn't that a false dicotomy, a false choice? It isn't a choice between a "rotten" relationship and "getting everything we want", its between a "rotten" relationship and a "good" relationship. A "good" relationship is one where we feel safe, loved, valued and respected, even if it is not perfect and/or contains challenges. A "rotten" relationship, on the other hand, would be one in which we feel unsafe, neither seen nor heard, feel unloved, unvalued and unrespected. Such a relationship may present chances for growth, but it is more likely to damage our self-esteem, which makes us less likely to grow, and more likely to withdraw into ourselves if we cannot find a way to exit the relationship. As far as "getting everything we want", well, that would depend upon what the person means by that. Some people want very little, and would be overjoyed to meet someone who simply listens to them and can understand them. Others might mean something much different by such a statement, though.
Because you let go of that side and quit expecting from it and went on to something with newer energy... then the law of attaction was able to align the things you had been unwittingly resisting.
I am a seeker of the strange, bizarre, otherworldly, and the beautiful. I used to be the One, but I'm all right now.
I love movies, but don't watch them much anymore. "Life's too short."
Here are some books I wrote.

You'll be fine :)
only now i don't want to be taken seriously! ; )
Ah, there in lies the problem of resistance... now move from focusing on what you don't want to focusing on what you DO want. :)
